As plastic is a solid-state, whose basic component of synthetic or semisynthetic produced polymers with organic groups.

A piece of plastic is made millions very long, intertwined verschlungener molecular chains (polymers), which consists of always repeating units (monomers) are assembled. For instance, the plastic polypropylene from propylene often repeating units (see picture above).

An outstanding characteristic of plastics is that their technical characteristics, such as ductility, hardness, elasticity, tensile strength, temperature, heat resistance and chemical resistance, the selection of raw materials, production processes and incorporation of additives in a wide limits vary.

Plastics are molded parts, semi-finished products, fibers or slides further. They are used as packing materials, textile fibers, heat insulation, pipes, flooring, ingredients of coatings, adhesives, cosmetics, electrical engineering as a material for insulation, circuit boards, cases, the vehicle as a material for tires, upholstery, dashboards, fuel tanks, and much more.

Synthetic Plastics by polymerization (polyaddition, polycondensation, etc.) from monomers. Raw material is usually gecracktes naphtha. Semi-synthetic plastics caused by the modification of natural polymers (such as cellulose to celluloid).
